Chief Technology Officer

Direct supervisory responsibilities:

• Director of Software Development
• Director of R&D/Architecture
• Director of Cloud
• Director of Product Management

Main duties:

• Be the technical visionary for the company
• Shape technological strategies in the company
• Understand where the company’s markets are heading and guide engineering
• Keep a pulse on the company’s development stack and related technologies to ensure engineering is staying current and competitive
• Be the owner and ensure execution of a Plan of Record to deliver compelling and competitive products offerings for the company
• Be responsible for the security strategy for the company’s products and services and for obtaining accreditation where required
• Build and retain all-star technical and product management talent
• Evangelize for and represent the company at conferences and speaking opportunities
• Coach and mentor direct reports and others throughout the organisation.
• Decide on core technology choices after considering input from others.
• Serve on the steering committee to align technology goals to Product Management Group roadmap and other departmental and organizational objectives
• Manage technical budgets
• Work with the marketing team to develop content and support activities that communicate IQGeo’s technology vision

Required skills/abilities:

• Demonstrated ability to recruit and lead a team of engineering, product management talent
• Track record of deploying enterprise production systems
• Track record of building a B2B SaaS business
• Track record of product strategy and planning in a software and services business
• Excellent leadership skills
• Knowledge of the latest technologies and ability to make effective technical selections
• Knowledge of best IT security practices
• Knowledge of current cloud technologies
• Knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure markets and preferably utilities
• Ability to manage large budgets effectively
• Excellent communication skills - Written and presentation
• Ability to communicate technical issues from a customer and business perspective
• Able to reconcile differing opinions, options, and agendas to find best course of action
• Knowledge of open source technologies including Postgres SQL, SQLite, JavaScript, Python, HTML in an agile development environment
• Knowledge of SaaS technologies including AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker and Kubernetes

Education and experience:

• Ability to work in a fast-moving organization focused on rapid innovation
• Experience in mid-sized technology business with substantial SaaS offering or
• Experience with a large end-user that has material in-house software demands
• Bachelor’s degree in related field; advanced degrees preferred
• 3+ years as a Chief Technical Officer or Chief Product Officer for a software company
