Software Engineer

Remote, UK

The Software Engineer supports our Web and Mobile Mapping Software Delivery efforts for enterprise customers. As an integral part of the geospatial project Engineering team, the successful candidate will be a key technical leader on the team responsible for implementing IQGeo products to our customers in the Utility and Telecommunications markets.

This role will join a dynamic team that builds complex applications and products that utilise software, GIS, engineering, and problem-solving skills. Our flexible scheduling and outstanding benefits support success in a highly creative, innovative, and energetic company.

 Supported by Sales, Engineering, and Delivery teams, this position will quickly offer the chance to learn the business, engage with customers, and contribute to designing and developing Geospatial products.  The role is expected to be capable of working independently, and as a team member, and should have a working knowledge of software development and coding in areas including JavaScript, Python, ETL/FME, PostGIS, GeoServer, and more. Strong communication skills and an excitement for working with others leads to success in this role.

Our UK offices are based in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. We are open to applicants looking to work on a hybrid or remote working basis and we support flexible working schedules for all staff. 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be initially involved in learning our core product by building application demos and updating, coordinating, and managing our demo library. Doing so will build the ability to work through the full software development lifecycle, including:

  • Define and implement demonstrations to fulfil the customer’s needs.
  • Build and maintain close links with our development and field implementation teams, including implementation partners, to ensure the smooth transition from concept to production implementation.
  • Work with delivery teams on implementation technical estimates, ensuring a smooth transition from sales to implementation.
  • Assist with and participate in presenting demos and solutions to customers.
  • Represent the company at trade shows and conferences.
  • Meetings with customers early in the development cycle to fully appreciate and understand the problem the customer is trying to solve.
  • Support Sales with client business case development, as applicable.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Required skills

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic individuals with a strong technical and consulting background in general software engineering skills related to the following:

Essential

  • One of: Java, .Net, or Python.
  • Experience with SQL and RDBMS technology (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLite).
  • Good oral and written communication skills, able to present technical concepts.

Desired

  • Knowledge of JavaScript, also PostGIS, and HTML design and development.
  • Experience with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or web mapping.
  • Enterprise Integration, especially web services.
  • Mobile application development (iOS, Android, Windows).
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Git or other distributed version control systems.
  • Related technology and telecommunications and/or utility/energy industry experience helpful.

Education and experience 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; focused program study in software development is helpful.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience coding, building web projects.
