Software Engineer R&D

Ghent, Belgium

IQGeo is seeking a Software Engineer to support our Research and Development efforts for domestic and international enterprise customers. As an integral part of the Engineering department, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing IQGeo products to our customers in the Utility and Telecommunications markets.  Our Engineering department, with teams located in Cambridge (UK), Denver (USA), Salt Lake City (USA), and Ghent (Belgium) is responsible for designing and developing our Geospatial products. As a Software Engineer, you will be a part of the Ghent R&D Engineering team, where you will be involved in the development of our auto-design tools for planning Fiber and District Heating networks, and possible future extensions to other utility sectors (e.g., Smart Grids). The person in this role is expected to be capable of working independently, and as a team member, and should have experience working with complex software business and enterprise applications.

Responsibilities

As an integral part of the R&D team, the successful candidate will be developing new product releases to meet the growing list of requirements for our existing auto-design products and new industry vertical applications.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Design, development, unit-testing, maintenance, and enhancement of software products adhering to the product architecture.
  • Collaborate with Product Management on refining feature requests, ensuring a smooth transition from requirements to implementation.
  • Work in an Agile environment, having frequent meetings with co-workers throughout the development cycle.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Person Specification

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic individuals with a strong technical background in general software engineering skills related to the following:

 

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of Java.
  • Knowledge of graph theory, artificial intelligence, and search/optimization algorithms.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to present technical concepts.
  • Excellent spoken and written English. 

Desirable

  • Experience with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or web mapping.
  • Knowledge of TypeScript (Angular) and HTML design and development are desirable.
  • Knowledge of Python is considered a plus.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Related experience in any telecommunications and/or utility industry is helpful (e.g., fiber-to-the-home, smart grids, or district heating).

Education / Experience
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or related field; focused program study in software development is helpful.
