The electric utility industry is in transition, with decarbonization, decentralization, digitalization, and resiliency driving unprecedented change. In fact, the very fabric of the grid is transforming, with changes to the physical layer, changes to the application layer, changes at the policy level and changes to consumer behaviors. These macro drivers translate to a massive overhaul of the electric system and operational systems, from source to consumption, including new connections, reinforcements of existing circuits, upgrading equipment with more capacity, and new transmission lines. Today’s supporting systems and processes are simply not equipped to deliver such change.

Inaccurately modeled assets, data errors, delays in updating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and batch updates to supporting systems simply will not work in the utility of the future. As a result, the electric grid and supporting systems require a major overhaul over the next 10 years.
