A Carbon Neutral company
Reducing customer emissions
Striving for a greener future
The climate crisis demands that every individual and organization reduce their consumption of carbon emitting energy sources and IQGeo’s telecommunication and utility customers are at the forefront of helping our communities adapt to a net-zero carbon economy.
This is a major challenge for organizations that operate and maintain utility and telecom networks and the IQGeo network management software provides a valuable technology foundation to assist operators with their decarbonization initiatives. The network modernization required to meet carbon reduction objectives demands the efficient design and operation of network assets. Our software provides a single geospatial view of their network that integrates real-time data from remote sensors, applications, and field assets which is essential to understanding the state of the network and to develop strategies for network evolution.
Today we are working with our forward-looking customers to design next-generation renewable networks and optimize their existing processes to cut unnecessary carbon emissions. This will be a long-term project, but we can see that the IQGeo software has a strategic role to play in helping our customers reduce carbon emissions and improve the lives of all our communities, and we will continue to develop our software to support the carbon reduction imperative.
In May 2022 we announced IQGeo’s decarbonization initiative to document and manage our own carbon emissions across our global operations. We did this by embarking on a project with Carbon Footprint Ltd. to measure our carbon footprint and offset our carbon production. Our detailed carbon assessments documented the tonnes of carbon produced by the company’s operational activities since we were established in 2019. IQGeo was awarded Carbon Neutral Certification for 2021 by offsetting the total tonnes of carbon generated during that calendar year through high-quality, certified carbon offsetting projects.
In keeping with the carbon reduction initiatives of our telecom and utility industry customers, we selected a portfolio of renewable energy offset projects in Africa, South America, and Asia (below). These projects in developing countries are reducing the production of carbon emissions and offsetting carbon produced elsewhere in the world.
Buenos Aires renewable energy, Brazil | Biomass
Peralta 1 Power, Uruguay | Wind power
199.70 MW Wind project, India | Wind power
Energizing India solar energy, India | Solar power
Biomass cookstove initiative, Malawi | Biomass
The selected projects above meet the Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard, two of the highest international standards for carbon credits, and comply with the stringent requirements of the Quality Assurance Standard (QAS) for Carbon Offsetting.
In addition to receiving Carbon Neutral Certification in 2021, IQGeo is also participating in a UK based tree planting project in which three trees will be planted for each of IQGeo’s employees. Planting trees is a great way to help sequester carbon emissions for the future by absorbing carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood. The UK Tree Planting project is managed and verified by Carbon Footprint Ltd. and takes place at schools and biodiversity sites around the country.
