Requirements

eir needed a solution to meet the Irish government’s 2020 digital agenda by providing at least 30Mbps to every premise in Ireland. Manual network planning was slow, labour-intensive, and inflexible, making it challenging to rerun different design scenarios and respond to competitors’ moves. Outsourcing was considered but rejected for strategic reasons. They required efficient fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network planning tools to analyze design scenarios, estimate costs, and optimize FTTH rollout areas.

Results

Implementing IQGeo’s Comsof Fiber software enhanced eir’s FTTH planning process, providing quick simulations, accurate cost estimates, and a high-level bill of materials. With only two engineers, they streamlined their rollout strategy, saving time and costs. Comsof Fiber’s flexibility allowed for rapid design rule changes and simulations, optimizing resource utilization. It also provided valuable insights into linear density changes and homes passed costs, significantly improving eir’s ability to meet government digital agenda requirements.
