Test Automation Engineer

Ghent, Belgium

IQGeo is seeking a Test Automation Engineer to support our engineering efforts for domestic and international enterprise customers. As an integral part of the Engineering department, the successful candidate will be responsible for assuring the quality of IQGeo products to our customers in the Telecommunications and Utility markets. You will join a dynamic team that builds complex applications and products that utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS), engineering, and problem-solving skills. This role will initially immerse you in learning the product stack and will subsequently have you work on building and maintaining a test suite for our various products, with a focus on automated tests whenever feasible and manual test cases where required. 

Our Engineering department, with teams located in Cambridge (UK), Denver (USA), and Ghent (Belgium) is responsible for designing and developing our geospatial products. As a Test Automation Engineer, you will be a part of the Ghent team, where you will be involved in the testing of our auto-design tools for planning Fiber and Power networks. The person in this role is expected to be capable of working independently, and as a team member, and should have experience working with complex business software and enterprise applications. 

Responsibilities

As an integral part of the R&D team, the successful candidate will be responsible for testing new product releases to meet the growing list of requirements for our existing products and new industry vertical applications. 

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that our enterprise applications are delivered with the appropriate level of quality. 
  • Capture the requirements and acceptance criteria of newly developed functionality in test cases and manage the overall inventory of test cases to ensure it remains up to date. 
  • Minimize the need for manual testing by transforming suitable test cases into automated tests. 
  • While manual exploratory or regression testing is not the primary focus of this role, it is expected to be part of the workload at times. 
  • Collaborate with Product Management on refining feature requests, ensuring testability stays top of mind when transforming the requirements to implementation. 
  • Work in an Agile environment, having frequent meetings with co-workers throughout the development cycle.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Person Specification

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic individuals with a strong technical background in general software engineering skills related to the following:

 

Essential

  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to identify, isolate and document defects. 
  • Proficient in either Java, Python, or a similar programming language. 
  • Experience with setting up and managing test automation frameworks. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to present technical concepts. 
  • Excellent spoken and written English. 

Desirable

  • Experience using a test case management tool (e.g., TestRail). 
  • Experience with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or web mapping software. 
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Related experience in any telecommunications and/or utility industry is helpful (e.g., fiber-to-the-home, smart grids, or district heating).

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a QA-oriented role (either manual and/or automation). 
  • You hold an ISTQB certification or similar proof of experience.
